Dhammapada literally means ‘the path of Dharma’ or ‘words of Dharma’. Both are true in the case of this anthology of inspiring statements, ascribed to Lord Buddha, in 420 Anushtubh verses, the most popular text of the Buddhist canon. It is of universal application like the Bhagavadgita and the Tirukkural, a perennial source of inspiration and practical wisdom, showing the path to right living.
Dr. C.Kunhan Raja , a distinguished scholar in Sanskrit, Pali and Prakrit, was Head of the Sanskrit Department of the Madras University, and Curator of the Adyar Library for decades. He read the Pali Dhammapada with Sylvain Levi on his way back from Oxford to India. Later during the celebration of the 2500th birth anniversary of the Buddha, his edition with an English translation was published by the Theosophical Publishing House.
This book is an imprint of the Theosophical Publishing House, Adyar, and is imported from India.
